You promised
that if I went into the sea
my sins would wash away.

I’m not sure how far from redemption
I float
but I’ve been waist-high
circling your colossus

for more years than
the rings of my heart can count,
cast cheap by the swell,
cheap by the spray.

If you’re quiet,
the sirens will entertain
the troubled galaxy
in your head,

but the beast circles.
So, I join the maids
in their song,
their worship.

I wade for days
and pray
that in the deep
I will find a part of you.
